It's a program to be burned onto a DVD then played on the Wii that will allow you to subsequently play movie DVDs.

You just burn the *.dvd file to DVD5 or DVD9 with CloneCD?

Thanks for the work! Keep it up.

It's over 9000!

AWESOME! It's been posted to the news page: http://nintendo-scene.com/470

YAOSM supports Dual Layer DVDs and AFAIK it's the only homebrew software that does. I know CycloWiz supports it as well but I'm not sure if any other non-homebrew chips do

You can get other builds of YAOSM 1.8 here: http://forums.nintendo-scene.com/index.php?topic=624

Were you guys waiting for one of the open source teams to support Dual Layer discs to release this or did it just so happen you finished it up less than a week after DL support was added to YAOSM?

We sat on it for nearly 6 months.  We did not want the commercial modchips to get to it before homebrew had a chance.  I was so excited when YOASM finally supported D/L.  The 1.8 build is rock solid and works great.  We had tried single layers to work perfect back then, but were sorely dissapointed when the dual layers were not working.......until now.  The video playback looks nothing short of spectacular, and makes my home dvd player look like a complete joke!

I had little time to test this before the release, we would love some feedback...and would also like for some good linux coders to help us make it better on future releases.  Also if someone has a component output on there wii...... i would like see hear the results Wink

I used a ritek single layer -r burnt at 4x speed.  I played one of my favorite movies of all time: Legue or extraordinary gentlemen pal dual layer orig.  Could not get menus up, but we hope that others can help us with that.

This thing is great!
Controls I noticed (In Movie):
L, Left, and Down = Rewind
R, Right, and Up = Fast Forward
Start, and A = Pause/Play
B = Stop
X = Subtitles On/Off
Y, Left Thumbstick, and Right Thumbstick = Nothing
Z = Unmount

If I missed any, let me know.
I tested a DVD and a home video (AVI). Both worked well, after I updated WiiFree to YAOSM. With WiiFree I was unable to even load GCOS. YAOSM works fine.

I know XBMC built their DVD Player, and if I remember correctly, it took them a long time to even after they had mplayer functioning properly. Possibly, you can find some info through their stuff.

hmm... my normal DVD player is an oppo upscaling to 720p through HDMI... so it will be interesting to see how this stacks up quality wise. I've also got an Xbox with XBMC set to upscale to 720p over component, of course an Xbox 360 which will do 480p over component (and is complete crap), and a PS2 which is also complete crap.

My Wii is also going out over component as is my Gamecube (and I'm assuming this should run on GC as well... though only supporting DVD minis)

I'm running WiiFree 2.45 right now and flashing YAOSM 1.8 is kind of a pain because I'll have to crack open the case again to pull out the chip  Roll Eyes

Most of my DVDs are NTSC but I've got the complete Series of Spaced which is PAL. Not sure if any of those discs are Single Layer though.

I noticed it's labeled PAL so does this only work wil PAL DVDs or will it work with NTSC as well?

and throwingks: XBMC took such a long time because they wanted to build their own menu support from scratch instead of using pirated/plagiarized code that was available already. Though they have already started porting XBMC to Linux so you may be able to use all their hard work and dump the menu code right into this player.

personally I don't know anything about programming for linux and I don't even have Linux up and running yet on any of my machines.

well I've tried an ubuntu live CD on both of my laptops and it seemed to function A-OK

I don't have Vista on any of my machines and basically I plan on making my laptops Linux only and my desktop an XP/Ubuntu dual boot.

And as we move back to the topic at hand...

Throwingks said it worked for him! He rubbed it in my face as well.
